Course Description

This course will address the myriad of complexities "below the surface" of Retinal detachment Surgery. Drawing from the expertise of internationally known experts, as well as leading members of the SN faculty, the course will cover a detailed discussion of challenges that arise in treating patients with retinal detachment. Session themes will include Scleral buckling, Pars plana Vitrectomy and vitreous substitutes, Complicated retinal detachment, Surgical controversies in RD management, Complications of RD surgery, Future trends and innovations. Advanced techniques, such as minimally invasive scleral buckling surgery, and Endoscopic vitrectomy in the context of surgical innovations will also be covered.

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of this activity the learner should have improved his/her ability to:

  • Discuss the challenges that arise when treating RD patients with concomitant diseases such as corneal disease, glaucoma, complicated cataract, PVR, systemic disease.
  • Discuss surgical strategies, technology and instrumentation for treatment of patients with complicated detachments.
  • Discuss innovative techniques and technology in patients with complex ocular co-morbidities.
  • Discuss treatment of sequential complications of RD surgery
